Unfortunately for all of your reading this San Antonio Blog, our Spurs aren’t excellent this year. Above average? Yes, but they are not the team they used to be. After the Spurs loss to the Atlanta Hawks, here are my top reasons why the Spurs are no longer a top 8 NBA team.

1. Tim Duncan – Whether it’s injury or age, Tim isn’t the same player he once was. Still a force, but Tim was formerly the best in the game.

2. Tony Parker – Tony chose to play for France in the Summer and the Spurs have paid the price all year. As weird as it sounds, it’s probably a good thing he got significantly injured so that he can rest and heal and give the Spurs a spark coming back. Maybe then he won’t be the oldest 27 year old in the NBA.

3. Gregg Popovich – Pop now regularly makes decisions that seem counter-intuitive. He’s finally given Malik Hairston a chance though which is a thumbs up move.

4. Richard Jefferson – RJ needs to start believing in himself. Outside of the occasional spectacular play, Jefferson doesn’t play like a major free agent acquisition.

5. Time – The Spurs were the best show running for 4 years, but their time has come and gone. Happens to everyone and everything.
